L-O, L-O, L-O, L-O-V-E!

                                                    Love

Love = Caring for another person (usually) physiclly and emotionally. Love may apply to various kinds of regard: the charity of the Creator, reverent adoration toward God or toward a person, the relation of parent and child, the regard of friends for each other, etc.

                             ~ Quick To Love ~

Sometimes friends do the silliest things. Sometimes they forget an important event, break a promise, or change their minds last minute. The result- you get left hanging. It’s easy to get hurt, and even mad, when a friend lets you down, but God wants you to choose to respond in love rather than in anger, even when people do disappoint you. That may seem like a real stretch, especially when you’re ready to explode!

James 1:19-20 says, “My dear brothers and sisters, always be willing to listen, and slow to speak. Do not become angry easily, because anger will not help you live the right kind of life God wants.” These little verses have some pretty sweet guidelines to live by! “Be willing to listen and slow to speak.” Yeah, cause that’s so easy! But for real, next time you’re ticked at someone, take a deep breath and try to figure out why they let you down, instead of just reacting to the situation. Don’t just give them a piece of your mind- figure out what’s going on in theirs. You might just find that they made a mistake and never intended to hurt you. You may see a misunderstanding or miscommunication issues at the root of the problem. Whatever it is that you find out, you’ll be prepared to respond in love rather than anger. (Ephesians 4:26). God doesn’t want the stupidest little things to get the best of you. The kind of relationships God wants for you are based on love and forgiveness, not anger and hate. So the next time you get hurt by a friend, stop long enough to pray and figure out what’s really going on!

So why is that important? Because anger has a way of eating through every relationship God’s planned for you. When people get mad, they make it known, which causes even the most solid relationships to crumble. That’s why its key to put a stop to anger early on! The Bible tells us to resolve issues by the end of the same day they’ve been started

                               ~ What Is Love? ~

What is true love? You’re probably thinking those super cheesy “Prince Charming” chick flicks that you watch 6 times a week. You also probably imagine that true love is only when you meet Mr. Right. Both of these may contain small aspects of love, but there is WAY more to it!

Love isn’t just the warm fuzzy feeling you get when you’re around your crush, it’s about serious sacrifice. It’s not just a little bit of kindness here and there, it’s a lifestyle of loyalty.

The best way to start understanding love is by studying Jesus. Jesus was the perfect example of love! I mean, four whole books of the Bible are solely based on how He showed His love! You can find an examples of His love by looking in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John (and every other book in the Bible!). Another place to look is 1 Corinthians 13, matter of fact, its actually called the Love Chapter of the Bible. This list of books gives you the rundown on what love is, and isn’t.

               ~ Think About This ~

~ Consider what it means to live a life of love.

~ Give love until it hurts, and then give some more.

~ Love = Obedience to God.

~ Think of the most unlovable person you know,
and come up with ways to act like Jesus to him or her.

~ What things in your life do you love more than God?
Make extreme steps to make sure God is on top of
your love life.

~ Reflect on how God shows His love for you,
and take His love into every area of your life-
how you think, speak, and act.

1 John 4:7-12 - “Dear friends, we should love each other, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has become God's child and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love to us: He sent his one and only Son into the world so that we could have life through him. This is what real love is: It is not our love for God; it is God's love for us. He sent his Son to die in our place to take away our sins. Dear friends, if God loved us that much we also should love each other. No one has ever seen God, but if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is made perfect in us.”

Psalm 36:10 - “Continue to love those you love you, and do good to those who do good.”

Luke 6:27-36 - "But I say to you who are listening, love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who are cruel to you. If anyone slaps you on one cheek, offer him the other cheek, too. If someone takes your coat, do not stop him from taking your shirt. Give to everyone who asks you, and when someone takes something that is yours, don't ask for it back. Do to others what you would want them to do to you. If you love only the people who love you, what praise should you get? Even sinners love the people who love them. If you do good only to those who do good to you, what praise should you get? Even sinners do that! If you lend things to people, always hoping to get something back, what praise should you get? Even sinners lend to other sinners so that they can get back the same amount! But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without hoping to get anything back. Then you will have a great reward, and you will be children of the Most High God, because he is kind even to people who are ungrateful and full of sin. Show mercy, just as your Father shows mercy.”

John 13:34 - “A new command I give you; love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

John 15:12-13 - “This is my command: love each other as I have loved you. The greatest love a person can show is to die for his friends.”

1 Corinthians 13 - “I may speak in different languages of people or even angels. But if I do not have love, I am only a noisy bell or a crashing cymbal. I may have the gift of prophecy. I may understand all the secret things of God and have all knowledge, and I may have faith so great I can move mountains. But even with all these things, if I do not have love, then I am nothing. I may give away everything I have, and I may even give my body as an offering to be burned. But I gain nothing if I do not have love. Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not get upset with others. Love does not count up wrongs that have been done. Love takes no pleasure in evil but rejoices over the truth. Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always endures. Love never ends. There are gifts of prophecy, but they will be ended. There are gifts of speaking in different languages, but those gifts will stop. There is the gift of knowledge, but it will come to an end. The reason is that our knowledge and our ability to prophesy are not perfect. But when perfection comes, the things that are not perfect will end. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I stopped those childish ways. It is the same with us. Now we see a dim reflection, as if we were looking into a mirror, but then we shall see clearly. Now I know only a part, but then I will know fully, as God has known me. So these three things continue forever: faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.”
